What is IEC?
Import Export Code (IEC) is a 10-digit code issued by DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade). It's mandatory for importing or exporting goods and services from India.
Who Needs IEC?
- Businesses importing raw materials or goods
- Exporters of products (coal, minerals, handicrafts, etc.)
- Service providers receiving foreign currency payments
- E-commerce sellers exporting via Amazon Global, eBay, etc.
IEC Registration Requirements
- PAN Card of business/proprietor
- Aadhaar/Voter ID
- Bank Account (with cancelled cheque)
- Business Address Proof
- Digital Signature (for companies/LLPs)
Registration Process
IEC is Lifetime Valid
Unlike earlier, IEC now has no expiry date. However, you must update it if:- Bank account changes
- Address changes
- Constitution changes (proprietor to company)
