What is IEC?

Import Export Code (IEC) is a 10-digit code issued by DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade). It's mandatory for importing or exporting goods and services from India.

Who Needs IEC?

  • Businesses importing raw materials or goods
  • Exporters of products (coal, minerals, handicrafts, etc.)
  • Service providers receiving foreign currency payments
  • E-commerce sellers exporting via Amazon Global, eBay, etc.

IEC Registration Requirements

  • PAN Card of business/proprietor
  • Aadhaar/Voter ID
  • Bank Account (with cancelled cheque)
  • Business Address Proof
  • Digital Signature (for companies/LLPs)

Registration Process

  • 1. Apply online at dgft.gov.in
  • 2. Upload documents
  • 3. Pay fees (Rs. 500)
  • 4. IEC issued in 1-2 working days
  • IEC is Lifetime Valid

    Unlike earlier, IEC now has no expiry date. However, you must update it if:
    • Bank account changes
    • Address changes
    • Constitution changes (proprietor to company)
